In Matthew 5:3-12, Jesus has shown us the essential character of the children of God that we will experience in eternity (Cf. Revelation 21-22:8). In Matthew 5:13, God describes how we need to act so that we will be faithful in order to penetrate secular society.

To be like salt, we must stand for Christ in this dark world. Christians need to affect people around them in a positive way as salt makes our food tasty. If we are too much like the world, we will be worthless and of no value to God. In Mark 9:50, God tells us to make a difference in the flavor of the world.

As salt keeps food from decaying, so we need to spread the Good news that Jesus has died for our sins and we must receive Him as Boss and Savior of our life! We are to bring peace to all people. In Luke 14:34-35, Jesus said, “Salt is good…” The word good means valuable, beautiful, pleasing, worthy, serviceable, and honest. God means for us to live a holy life according to His Word! In 2 Peter 1:5-9, it shows us how to have fruitful growth in our faith. God means for us to have moral excellence while we are adding to our faith knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, and love. All of these will help us to have a meaningful and productive life as we grow in Jesus. (Cf. 2 Peter 3:18; 1:1-4). In Galatians 6:7-10, God says, “for whatever a man sows, that will he reap. If we sow to the Spirit, we will reap everlasting life…Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, we will reap if we faint not.”
